Andhra Pradesh feeds the world before it decorates it. The state is India's aquaculture powerhouse — the Godavari delta districts farm and process the shrimp that stock freezers across the US and East Asia — and its coastline is dotted with export-approved processing plants. Around that marine core sits a craft belt with some of India's most distinctive GI toys and textiles.

Shrimp and the seafood coast

Two ODOP designations tell the story: processed prawn and shrimp in West Godavari, and the seafood cluster of Visakhapatnam, whose port and pre-processing ecosystem give buyers HACCP- and EU-listed suppliers at every scale. For seafood importers, Andhra is not an option among many; it is the Indian sourcing base.

Toys, lace and painted cloth

The craft roster is unusually specific. GI-protected Kondapalli Toys — carved from light poniki wood and painted in vegetable tones — and Etikoppaka Toys, lacquered on the lathe, are the state's twin toy traditions. Tirupati's ODOP entry, Srikalahasti Kalamkari, is hand-drawn temple cloth now supplying fashion and wallcovering buyers; Narasapur crochet lace built a century-old export trade to European table-linen houses; Ponduru khadi is hand-spun cloth with a Gandhian pedigree. Sweet-toothed gourmets add GI-tagged Atreyapuram Pootharekulu and Vizianagaram's mango jelly (its ODOP product).

Minerals and the industrial line

YSR Kadapa's ODOP designation — barytes — reflects one of the world's largest deposits, feeding drilling-fluid supply chains. The Sri City industrial zone near the Tamil Nadu border hosts multinational manufacturing, and Visakhapatnam anchors pharma and bulk-drug parks.

Logistics and the buyer fit

Visakhapatnam and Krishnapatnam ports bracket the coast; cold-chain infrastructure follows the shrimp trade.
