Telangana pairs one of India's youngest state economies with some of its oldest craft lineages. Hyderabad anchors a pharma, aerospace and IT corridor; an hour away, villages weave textiles whose techniques predate the city itself. The ikat belt

Telangana owns India's most famous double-ikat tradition. GI-protected Pochampally Ikat — resist-dyed before weaving, so the pattern lives in the yarn itself — comes from the Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, whose ODOP designation is handloom ikat. The rarer Telia Rumal, an oil-treated ikat once traded across the Arabian Sea, holds its own GI. Warangal: durries and granite

The Warangal districts split their ODOP portfolio between two very different floors: Warangal Durries — GI-protected flatweave rugs in cotton and wool, exported for decades to European retailers — and granite slabs from the region's quarry belt, which feeds India's dimensional-stone trade. One district pairing covers both a soft-furnishings programme and a hard-surfaces one.

Hyderabad's specialty lines

The capital's GI entry is Hyderabad Lac Bangles, handmade in the lanes around Charminar and stacked into festive and bridal collections. Nirmal Toys — lacquered softwood figures with a Mughal-era pedigree — carry their own GI from Adilabad's craft town. Add Tandur redgram from the state's pulse belt and Telangana's protected-origin portfolio spans jewellery, toys, textiles and food.

Scale, when you need it

Beyond craft, Hyderabad is one of the world's largest vaccine and generics manufacturing centres, with allied capacity in nutraceuticals and medical devices — relevant for buyers in regulated categories. Industrial parks along the Outer Ring Road host furniture, apparel and precision-engineering units expanding under the state's aggressive industrial policy.

Moving cargo

Telangana is landlocked but well-plumbed: dry ports and container depots around Hyderabad, rail links to Krishnapatnam and Chennai on the coast, and one of India's busiest air-cargo terminals at Rajiv Gandhi International — the standard route for pharma and high-value craft shipments.
